With the recent discovery of my great-grandparents’ marriage certificate, I also verified my great-grandmother’s maiden name: Clayton. This widens my family tree.

I did some searching for Claytons in Chattahoochee County, Ga., and found several living in the Pine Knot community. But what was most exciting was a 1910 U.S. Census listing Dorsey and Adline Pinkard as living with a Nellie Clayton. Nellie Clayton’s relation to the head of the household was mother-in-law, meaning I discovered Adeline Clayton’s mother and one more generation of my family tree.

In 1910, Nellie Clayton was a 60-year-old widow living with her daughter, son-in-law and three grandsons– Bennie, Johnnie and Isaac. (My grandfather, Willie, would arrive five years later).
